I hope everyone is enjoying their Switch console (if they have one). We've seen a surge of activity within the Nintendo sphere in the past weeks following the launch of the new system, which is great for Nintendo Life and has also stirred up the community with new users and lots more discussion.
However, it's come to my attention that sometimes people will disagree on varies topics and there is nothing more that can be done - people be different.
Please remember that our (hard working) moderation team always want to encourage freedom of speech and freedom of opinion and sometimes this can be difficult when people express (valid) opinions that are at odds with the vast majority.
A feature we've seen asked about for quite a while is finally here, yes you can now ignore specific users.
How do I ignore someone?
Just find one of their comments/posts and click on the 'Ignore' button, that will then ignore them.
What happens when I ignore them?
Once you ignore a user it will automatically hide all of their comments & forum posts from your view of articles/topics.
What about replies/mentions of ignored users?
You'll still see comments from other users if they happen to reply/mention/quote one of your ignored users, if you feel you'd want to hide those comments/replies too, let me know and I can implement that.
Will they know I ignored them?
Nope.
Will they be ignored on Push Square too?
Yep, the ignore will function on both of our sites.
How do I un-ignore someone?
A new area in the account area shows you all your ignored users where, if you wish, you can remove the ignore.
So, if you feel your disagreeing with a particular user on a molecular level you can now ignore them and refrain from having any pointless/disruptive arguments with them.
New times need new tools. You are all doing the terrific job we old timers have come to expect, Ant, and I for one, Thank you.
There has been an upswing in aggressiveness in posts, imho. There has been a tendency for clique-i-ness (apologies for making up a word) and just plain ganging up on other posters. As I've posted a few times: this place just ain't fun anymore.
Perhaps politics can be restricted to one of two threads that can be blown up when they become too personal and abusive? Just a thot. Someone shouldn't be called a libtard, SJW, or snowflake when posting about a video game.
I haven't posted much lately as I come here for games and Nintendo news and to follow a few other oldie posters. I don't want to get into pseudo -intellectual discussions with posters who merely vomit up the latest buzzwords as arguments.
Anyway, thanks for the difficult job the mods do. As my favourite mug says: Keep calm and carry on!
@subpopz yeah, I think when someone else replies directly someone on your ignored users list then maybe you don't want to see that reply either. It might get a little messy though, so I haven't implemented that yet unless people feel it's required.
Let's remember that mods shouldn't go around ignoring anyone~
About the ignore thing, is it a good idea to have it always visible in every post? I dunno it kinda seems like the kind of thing to have in the user profile. Though I guess that would make it a bit more hidden for new users.
