I have decided that I am in the minority of folks who feel that Helldivers II is overrated. I do like: the gear progression. I don't like: the movement, the gunplay, the friendly-fire, or the multi-input commands for strategems. Aside from the flashy splosions...the Earth Defense Force series does all of this but better.

Just being honest.

So, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth does let you freely choose between a few different alternate costumes for your party, but for whatever inane reason this feature seems to be locked to around 1/3rd of the map area of a single region.

Once you get too far away from Costa Del Sol the game forces everyone back to their default outfits. It's not just the beachwear either. All alternate costumes can only be worn in the tropical portion of Corel, even if the story portion of the game they were introduced in isn't related to Costa Del Sol at all.

For example, Yuffie wears a fancy dress during a certain cutscene at the Gold Saucer, and although you unlock the outfit afterwards, she can't actually wear it there. You have to go back to the area around Costa Del Sol to do so (the same is true for the beachwear, as well as the Shinra military gear you obtain during the Junon chapter).

Everything is fully coded for combat & exploration, the game just arbitrarily limits the feature for whatever reason I can't fathom. It'd be better if they didn't give the option at all rather than open it up and pull it away soon after.

Just to be clear this is a small issue in an otherwise fantastic game (though once again Fort Condor can do one. Luckily it hasn't popped back up yet), it's just so frustrating because it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Been dabbling in PSO2 NGS here and there again. I kind of don't like how the new-player complimentary gear gives me an express lane through the story. I haven't had to use item enhancement at all because I'm walking through. Just a casual observer.

Reached Chapter 14 of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this morning and let me tell you… most of the words coming out of my mouth since I began Chapter 13 have been one of three: “what”, “the”, and a certain swear word. This game has left me on tenterhooks for hours now and it’s blowing my mind at times. The story is superb and I’m being left just the right amount in the dark in order to fully enjoy the twists of the story.

That said, when it comes to playing the game (the cutscenes are immaculate and superbly directed) Rebirth is unbelievably unpolished and janky. Some of the sections are blatant filler and it boggles the mind how on earth this kind of garbage was allowed past quality control and play testing. Chapter 11, Chapter 6, Chapter 2 in particular are very guilty of unnecessary padding. There were times when I wanted to throw the controller at the wall. Square has a brilliant story and cast of characters, and the game is already very long, how do they have such little imagination that they have to resort to the lowest level of game design?
