Better sit down
We all want 3DS, and we all know the games we want to see on the system, but what do our gaming counterparts in Japan want to play? If you said "Square Enix RPGs", you just scored five points.
Japanese site 4gamer surveyed over 20,000 gamers to find out which title – announced or otherwise – they were most excited about. Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest occupied the top two slots, with Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D rounding out the podium positions.
The list also contains many of the usual suspects: Gundam, Shin Megami Tensai, Mario Kart and more. The highest-profile title not on the list? Masuhiro Sakurai's flagship Kid Icarus: Uprising, which is nowhere to be seen. After this long an absence, perhaps Japanese gamers have forgotten all about Pit.

Not that shocked. The Japanese gaming industry is failing because of the gamers, not the developers. It's been clear for a while now that quality can't be measured by the consumer trends over there.

Considering its not really a new Kid Icarus like the first two it doesn't surprise me a but. My DS library is full of Third Party games myself. 3DS continues to bring on games like Etrian Odyssey, Super Robot Taisen, Retro Game Challenge then ill be sold on the system. Its not first party Nintendo that makes the DS great for me either, its the incredible third party support.

Shocked about kid Icarus but that's it. Japan's always been about the rpgs. Kid Icarus will sell millions here in the states and Europe so I don't think Nintendo is going to worry about that list to much.

Man Japanese gamers are so spoiled I don't even think they know it. Every new Zelda that's come out there has sold worse than the last one compared to everywhere else in the world. They get all these great exclusive games and things like the Super Mario Advance 4 e-reader cards with levels that weren't available anywhere outside of the country (unless you're lucky to find a rom or have success printing off fan-made translated cards) and the e-reader fails before most of that stuff is released to us! I bet it would have sold millions had the e-reader been used for an RPG.
Sure I love rpg's like Final Fantasy, and am glad they finally broke through into the States in the early 90s or so, yet all Japanese gamers really ever care about most is RPGs! Of course that means Mother 3 does good there, but is nowhere to be found here because of too many "cutesy-weird Japanese graphics" like the kind you see in Ufouria and Do Re Mi Fantasy and Bio Miracle Bokkutte Upa that aren't hardcore enough for American audiences.

You stand corrected. A DS Phat WITH NINTENDOGS sold for under 30 dollars. I'd imagine 3 years ago It wouldn't have been much higher than 75.
And I wouldn't exactly be waiting for the 3DS. Its not something I'm necessarily looking forward to. I'd just pick it up for cheap to try it out, see the 3D effects, maybe play a few games.

@JesusSaves: why "hope it fails miserably"? if you don't want to play a game in 3D on it, all you have to do is leave the slider in the 'off' position. it's still got a more powerful processor under the hood, and it'll be able to play all the sweet games they've got listed as upcoming for it. :3

So you're saying that you don't want the 3DS because of the 3D? If you ask me, that's a stupid reason not to buy a console. 55. DrCruse
04 Sep 2010, 11:24 BST
@theblackdragon
I hope it fails miserably because of:
1. Nintendo's newfound obsession with casual games
2. Downloadable content
3. It's horribly overhyped; the 3D and graphics are gimmicky and the 1st party launch titles are pretty much all remakes. I don't need another copy of Starfox 64 however great its graphics may be.
@Atomic Wii Man
I never said that I didn't like the 3D effects. However, they are overhyped and unnecessary. If there is one thing I've learned in all my years of gaming, it's that the systems with the superior hardware often do not win. (3DO, Jaguar, Mastery System, Odyssey2, Intellivision, Sega 32X, etc.) and have a very small amount of good games. I'm not buying it because I don't want to waste a few hundred dollars just to get to play a bunch of N64 games in 3D (which is pretty much all that Nintendo is offering).
56. NintyFan
04 Sep 2010, 12:35 BST
Well, Japan's always known for their love of RPGs, but it's surprising that Paper Mario and Mario Kart aren't up there. Kid Icarus not being on the list doesn't surprise me, because they have only played the first game. Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters wasn't released in Japan, but it was everywhere else.

58. miketh2005
04 Sep 2010, 14:48 BST
@JesusSaves: @3 It's not Nintendo's fault for the overhypment, it's overhyped because it's so cool, lol. It's not "gimmicky", it's the next step in portable gaming, and you can turn it off if you want, how is that gimmicky? You said it yourself, the systems that fail, didn't fail because the hardware was too good, it failed because it didn't have good games.
The first party titles aren't ALL remakes, maybe 50% are, but thats only because of the 3D, and they are trying to please the fans, but who cares about 1st party titles when there are so much good 3rd party titles already announced!
We see the 3DS line up so far, and almost every developer is developing or will develop for it. I mean, the thing hasn't even come OUT yet, and there are so much developers, imagine when it comes out?
@2: And downloadable content is bad how? Everyone is doing it, not just nintendo.
@1: Nintendo, and Microsoft, and Sony... You yourself said it again: "the 1st party launch titles are pretty much all remakes. I don't need another copy of Starfox 64 however great its graphics may be."
That doesn't sound like casual games to me. Nintendo might be making casual games, but they aren't leaving their fans out in the cold either. Microsoft with Kinect, and Sony with Move is doing the same thing, lol.
All we have here is a troll who is too poor to afford a 3DS when it first comes out. Hence the "I'll buy it when it comes under $75" and the "I use eBay". Move along people, move along.

62. DrCruse
04 Sep 2010, 20:02 BST
@miketh2005
The fact that you can turn the 3D off PROVES that it is gimmicky. It's a cool effect but is ultimately unnecessary. I'd say about 80% of the games are remakes or will contain very little new content (i.e. Animal Crossing).
Yes, DLC is bad. All that you get is the right to download the game. I would much rather just buy the physical game. The game retains no value after being bought, and when the online servers are taken down decades from now, it will be virtually impossible to buy the games any more.
Yeah, I sort of have been left out in the cold. Pretty much the only good first party game for the Wii is NSMBW, and it is only just decent.
Do you know what I really hate about pretty much everywhere on the internet? You have a disagreement with someone and they flame you. I could easily afford the 3DS no matter what its price (within reason obviously). I got my original NDS when it was brand new, but it was only shortly afterwards that I realized there was no reason to pay inflated launch prices when I could just buy the same thing for cheaper later. THAT is why I will not buy a 3DS immediately.
@GamesX99
I was a Nintendo fan, and still am a fan of the DS. I just don't really care for the Wii that much, and the 3DS doesn't seem to be worth my money.
@theblackdragon
I didn't crap on anything. All that I said was that I don't want a 3DS, and all of a sudden everyone accuses me of hating Nintendo, being poor, and being stupid. If you like the 3DS, that is perfectly fine. I'm just spending my money elsewhere.

Before I get started I just wanted to Point out the Block of Text Next to the Comment Box. It says and I quote "and be Nice to One Another" Try to get along guys, Everyone has there own view and have the Right to say it.
Personally I can hardly wait for the 3DS. I skipped the DSi because it felt like a filler and I knew something like the 3DS would come along to Blow it out of the Water. I mean it has all of the DSi's features plus 3D Games, 3D Camera, Prospect of 3D Movies, better Download Content, Analog Slide Pad.... Shall I go on?
One thing that I desperately want is Super Smash Bros for the 3DS. I've known that SSB is heavy on the Hardware so now that a Handheld with the Power to do it is here I want my Portable SmashBros. Think about it. How great would it be to Pull out your 3DS and Play a Quick Match while waiting on the Train or in Line. Multi-Player Would really open up with it being able to communicate via WiFi. What would be awesome is if you could play online against people with SSBB on their Wiis. Imagine being away somewhere but still be able to hook-up with your friend on his Wii while you played him with your 3DS. That would be great. I've calmed myself by playing this Homebrew version some guy made but it's in 2D 16 bit and most of the wanted Features are not available and the Gameplay isn't great either. My inner Brawler wants some Real SSB on the DS.

@DjinnFighter, etc.: Zelda is on the list. It's written in Japanese as the fourth entry. Ocarina of Time.
@Otaku: I heard from video game writers on 1up.com that Japanese gamers prefer to play cooperative games rather than competitive ones. That's part of the reason why Dragon Quest IX is so popular in Japan. Even games such as Monster Hunter have a cooperative twist.
No matter where you go in Japan, they're playing the same things, so that they can just go up to the person next to them for help. It's the whole different demographic of living in a small country. They're spoiled, I tell you!
@everyone arguing with the son of God: Calm down.
